The department is equipped with 9 modern operating rooms and a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) with 4 beds, completing more than 20,000 anesthetic procedures of various types every year. It is furnished with a full range of advanced medical equipment: Mindray multifunctional anesthesia machines, Target-Controlled Infusion (TCI) pumps, Japanese Olympus flexible bronchoscopes, medical equipment pipeline disinfection systems, ECG monitor-defibrillators, anesthesia depth monitors, blood glucose detectors, body temperature monitoring and thermal insulation devices, blood gas analyzers, intelligent narcotic drug management systems, nerve stimulators, muscle relaxation monitors, autologous blood salvage systems, video laryngoscopes, and color Doppler ultrasound diagnostic instruments.

As a Grade I clinical department and a pivotal hub linking all clinical disciplines, the Department of Anesthesiology undertakes clinical anesthesia work for all departments of the hospital. Its services cover anesthesia for general surgery and interventional procedures, comfortable painless artificial abortion, painless gastrointestinal endoscopy, labor analgesia and other items, facilitating the coordinated development of various medical disciplines.

The department carries out advanced technologies including ultrasound-guided precise nerve block anesthesia, intraoperative controlled low central venous pressure, autologous blood salvage, blood protection, and acute normovolemic hemodilution. Postoperative multimodal analgesia is widely applied to promote patients’ enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). Visualized difficult airway management and ultrasound-guided arteriovenous puncture technology provide vital access for rescuing critically ill patients. The department also assists other clinical departments in the emergency rescue of severe and critical cases.

Serving as a clinical internship training base for Guangdong Medical University, Yichun University and other medical institutions, the department undertakes the teaching of undergraduate interns and the training of advanced visiting physicians every year. Over the past three years, it has trained more than 20 interns. Three faculty members have been awarded the title of Outstanding Teacher of the hospital, and the department has once been rated as the Annual Outstanding Teaching and Research Office.

The department hosts one national continuing medical education project Geriatric Anesthesia and Analgesia under the ERAS Concept and one provincial continuing medical education project Summit Forum on Anesthesia for Enhanced Recovery After Surgery each year. Renowned experts at home and abroad are invited to deliver lectures, continuously leading the development of geriatric anesthesia and analgesia, and driving the disciplinary progress of anesthesiology in surrounding areas.
