Department of Endocrinology, Shenzhen Longhua District Central Hospital
The Department of Endocrinology is among the first batch of Key Medical Disciplines of Longhua District, one of the first departments in Longhua District to be granted the district-level Key Laboratory Program, and a department approved under the "Three Famous Projects" (Famous Doctors, Famous Hospitals, Famous Clinics) of Longhua District.
It has introduced the Endocrinology Team led by Professor Yan Li from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University. For more than 300 days a year, experts from the "Three Famous Projects" team provide guidance on clinical practice, teaching and scientific research in the department, hold consultations in the Endocrinology Famous Doctor Clinic, and address complex and intractable cases for patients with endocrine diseases in Longhua District. Meanwhile, the department has signed a formal cooperation agreement with the team of Ruijin Hospital led by Academician Ning Guang, and established the Longhua Branch of the National Metabolic Management Center (MMC), realizing the standardization and homogenization of the diagnosis, treatment and management of metabolic diseases in the department.
The department consists of three core sections: Outpatient Clinic, Inpatient Ward, and Endocrinology Laboratory.
Professor Ning Jie, the founder and discipline leader of the department, is a Doctor of Medicine, Chief Physician, Professor of Internal Medicine, Research Scholar at the University of North Carolina, USA, Master's Supervisor, and Co-supervisor for Postdoctoral Fellows.
The department has a total of 26 staff members, including 1 professional with senior title (Chief Physician), 3 with associate senior titles (Associate Chief Physicians); 2 doctoral degree holders, 8 master's degree holders; 1 postdoctoral researcher, 3 laboratory technologists, and 1 full-time health education nurse.
It is equipped with advanced medical devices, including a fully automated chemiluminescence immunoassay analyzer (Roche), DXA bone densitometer (GE), fully automated urinary iodine analyzer, multiple insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring system (CGM), hospital-wide intelligent blood glucose management system, non-mydriatic fundus camera, visceral fat analyzer, and non-invasive arterial detector.
The department has 30 open specialized inpatient beds, and runs the general endocrinology outpatient clinic and the "Three Famous Projects" famous doctor clinic. The annual outpatient volume of the specialty exceeds 25,000 person-times, with an annual inpatient admission of over 1,000 person-times.
Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment
1.Diabetes mellitus and its acute and chronic complications: including diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), hyperglycemic hyperosmolar syndrome (HHS), diabetic vascular disease, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, diabetic foot, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, and hypoglycemia. Common clinical manifestations include dry mouth, polydipsia, polyuria, dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, numbness and tingling of the extremities, etc.
2.Thyroid diseases: including all thyroid-related disorders such as hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, subacute thyroiditis, thyroid nodule puncture and ablation, and thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO). Common clinical manifestations include tachycardia, hyperhidrosis, heat intolerance, cold intolerance, weight loss or gain, neck pain, chills, fever, etc.
3.Adrenal diseases: including hypercortisolism (Cushing's syndrome)/adrenocortical insufficiency, primary and secondary hyperaldosteronism, adrenal hyperplasia or space-occupying lesions, etc. Common clinical manifestations include hypertension, abnormal weight gain or loss, fatigue, lassitude, limb edema, etc.
4.Hypothalamic and pituitary diseases: including hypopituitarism, pituitary tumors, diabetes insipidus, etc. Common clinical manifestations include dizziness, headache, blurred vision, polyuria, etc.
5.Gonadal diseases: including menstrual disorders, hirsutism, acne, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and male hypogonadism, etc.
6.Other disorders: refractory hypertension and hypertension in young and middle-aged populations, gout/hyperuricemia, dyslipidemia, overweight/obesity, osteoporosis, growth and development disorders in children and adolescents, water and electrolyte disorders (hypokalemia, hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, hypernatremia, hypocalcemia, hypercalcemia), and hypoglycemia.
