Department of Neurology, Shenzhen Longhua District Central Hospital
Founded in 2015, the Department of Neurology is one of the largest neurology disciplines with the most complete subspecialties in Longhua District. It has developed into a discipline with a strong talent team, solid technical strength, standardized process management, excellent service quality, and equal emphasis on medical treatment, teaching and scientific research.
It is now certified as a National Comprehensive Stroke Prevention and Control Center, Grade A Unit of Shenzhen Thrombolysis Map, and Designated Medical Institution for Acute Stroke Treatment in Shenzhen. It serves as the Chairman Unit of the Neurology Professional Committee of Longhua District Medical Association, the Leading Unit of Longhua District Vertigo Specialty Alliance, a Member Unit of the Sleep Specialty Alliance of Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, and the Co-construction Unit of the Neurology Discipline of The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.
The department has undertaken multiple national, provincial and municipal scientific research projects, and published dozens of papers in domestic and international professional journals in recent years. It is a postgraduate training base for master's degree programs of the Institute of Brain Science and Rehabilitation Medicine of South China Normal University and Guangdong Medical University.
The department has 60 inpatient beds, divided into Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU), Stroke Unit (SU), Sleep Medicine Ward, and Vertigo Ward. It also administers a Sleep Monitoring Room, Video Electroencephalography (EEG) Room, Vertigo Center, and Neuroelectrophysiology Room.
It is among the first in Shenzhen to independently carry out interventional treatment for ischemic cerebrovascular disease and maintains a leading level in this field, including intracranial and extracranial vascular balloon dilatation and stenting, mechanical thrombectomy for acute cerebral infarction, and transradial puncture cerebrovascular intervention.
The department provides patient-centered holistic nursing and disease-specific nursing, with a focus on ultra-early nursing assessment and intervention for stroke, as well as patients' mental health. It routinely performs nursing appropriate technologies including nasointestinal tube placement, intermittent tube feeding, speaking valve application for tracheotomy patients, and midline catheter placement for intravenous therapy.
The Neurology Stroke Treatment Team (NSTT) innovatively established by the department in 2022 has significantly improved the efficiency and outcome of stroke treatment. In 2023, it built the first Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU), Sleep Medicine Center and Vertigo Center in northern Shenzhen.
Medical Equipment
Supported by the hospital, the department is equipped with a 3.0T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system, high-end spiral CT, large-scale Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) machine, and equipment of the Rehabilitation Treatment Center. It also has dedicated equipment for neurological diseases, including polysomnography (PSG) system, vertigo diagnosis and treatment system, neurological critical care central monitoring system, video EEG monitoring system, electromyography (EMG) and evoked potential system, vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) system, swallowing therapy device, insomnia treatment device, biofeedback therapy device, electric standing bed, mild hypothermia therapy device, vibration sputum elimination device, air wave pressure therapy device, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy device, and ventilators.
Medical Team
The department has a highly educated medical and nursing team with rich clinical experience, consisting of more than 30 medical and nursing staff, including 14 physicians and over 20 nurses. Among them, there are 3 Chief Physicians, 2 Associate Chief Physicians, 2 Doctoral and Postdoctoral degree holders, 12 Master's degree holders, 3 Master's Supervisors, and 1 Visiting Scholar to the UK.
