Department of Nephrology, Shenzhen Longhua District Central Hospital

The Department of Nephrology is among the first batch of key medical disciplines of Longhua District, the host discipline for the introduction of high-level medical teams, and the home to the Key Laboratory of Chronic Kidney Disease of Longhua District. It is the first nephrology specialty in Longhua District to carry out advanced medical technologies including renal needle biopsy, peritoneal dialysis (PD) and hemodialysis (HD). Its affiliated Hemodialysis Center is the first hemodialysis facility in Longhua District that has passed the full review of the Health Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, as well as the first designated medical institution for critical illness medical insurance approval for uremic dialysis patients in the district.

The department currently has 3 Chief Physicians, 2 Associate Chief Physicians, and 4 Attending Physicians, including 4 Doctors of Medicine (MD), 1 Postdoctoral Fellow in Medicine. 90% of the medical team hold a master's or doctoral degree in medicine.

Honors and Rankings

In 2021, the department was awarded the Third Prize of Medical Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Medical Association.

In 2022, it won the Excellent Innovation Achievement Award of China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Innovation and Promotion Award.

In 2022 and 2023, it has been ranked among the top 100 disciplines nationwide in the Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) for Chinese Hospitals for two consecutive years. It is the only listed discipline in Longhua District, ranking 3rd in Shenzhen and among the top 10 in Guangdong Province.

Clinical Expertise

The department maintains an advanced level in Shenzhen in the diagnosis and treatment of various renal and rheumatic diseases, including chronic nephritis, chronic renal failure (CRF), IgA nephropathy, membranous nephropathy, diabetic kidney disease (DKD), hypertensive nephropathy, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), lupus nephritis, vasculitis, and gout.

It performs all surgical procedures in the field of nephrology, with mastery of advanced technologies including arteriovenous fistula (AVF) angioplasty, prosthetic vascular arteriovenous graft (AVG) angioplasty, thrombectomy for fistula and dialysis catheter, ultra-high pressure balloon dilatation, and double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP).

Scientific Research Achievements

In recent years, the department has been granted 8 research projects, including the General Program of the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Medical Scientific Research Fund, and Science and Technology Planning Project of the Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, with a total research funding of over 1 million RMB. It has published more than 40 academic papers, among which 23 are indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI), and has obtained 15 patents.
