Department of Gastroenterology, Shenzhen Longhua District Central Hospital

The Department of Gastroenterology is a Key Medical Discipline (under construction) of Longhua District. It serves as the standing committee member unit of the Gastroenterology Branch of Guangdong Medical Association, the chairman unit of the Gastroenterology Specialty Committee of Shenzhen Association of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and the vice chairman unit of the Gastroenterology Specialty Committee of Shenzhen Medical Association. It is a comprehensive specialty integrating clinical practice, teaching and scientific research, consisting of the Gastroenterology Outpatient Clinic, Digestive Endoscopy Center, and Inpatient Ward.

Currently, the department has 40 medical and nursing staff, including 2 high-level talents of Shenzhen Longhua District, 3 chief physicians (senior professional title), 4 associate chief physicians (associate senior professional title), 3 staff with doctoral degrees, and 8 with master's degrees. At present, the annual outpatient volume of the department exceeds 45,000 person-times, the annual endoscopic diagnosis and treatment volume reaches about 25,000 cases, with 32 authorized inpatient beds and an annual discharge volume of more than 2,000 person-times.

Diagnosis and Treatment Scope

The department provides standardized diagnosis and treatment for esophageal diseases, gastric diseases, intestinal diseases, hepatobiliary diseases, and pancreatic diseases.

Digestive Endoscopy Center

The center is equipped with advanced medical equipment, including 3 sets of industry-leading Olympus 290 high-definition electronic endoscopy systems (Japan), 1 set of Fujifilm D7000 high-definition endoscopy system (Japan), 1 set of Fujifilm 5902ZW blue laser high-definition endoscopy mainframe system, 3 sets of Fujifilm 4450HD endoscopy mainframe systems, and 1 set of Olympus ME-2 endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) system.

The center independently performs routine gastroscopy, routine colonoscopy, painless gastroenteroscopy, duodenoscopy (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography, ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and capsule endoscopy. It also independently carries out a full range of endoscopic therapeutic procedures, including:

Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) for gastrointestinal polyps

Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) for early gastrointestinal cancer and protruding lesions

Endoscopic hemostasis for gastrointestinal bleeding

Endoscopic removal of foreign bodies in the digestive tract

Jejunal feeding tube placement

Endoscopic Variceal Ligation (EVL) and tissue adhesive injection for esophageal and gastric varices caused by liver cirrhosis

Balloon dilatation and stent placement for gastrointestinal stricture

ERCP-guided common bile duct stone extraction, Endoscopic Nasobiliary Drainage (ENBD), dilatation and stent placement for common bile duct stricture, pancreatic duct stent placement, and bile duct brushing cytology

Mother-baby cholangiopancreatoscopy-guided biopsy of biliopancreatic duct lesions

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration/biopsy (EUS-FNA/B)

The endoscopic diagnosis and treatment capacity of the department has reached the advanced level of tertiary hospitals in Shenzhen.

The department will take the diagnosis and treatment of common, frequently-occurring and intractable gastrointestinal diseases as the guide, focus on digestive endoscopy and minimally invasive treatment, take talent training and discipline echelon construction as the core, and strive to build a gastroenterology specialty featured by "patient satisfaction, first-class service, and exquisite technology".
