Department of Anorectal Surgery, Shenzhen Longhua District Central Hospital
Founded in October 2011, the Department of Anorectal Surgery is the earliest established specialized anorectal department in Longhua District. It currently has 35 inpatient beds and 20 medical and nursing staff, including 1 Chief Physician, 2 Associate Chief Physicians, 4 Attending Physicians, 1 Resident Physician; 1 Associate Chief Nurse, 7 Chief Nurse Supervisors, 1 Nurse Practitioner, and 1 Registered Nurse.
The department records an annual outpatient volume of more than 10,000 person-times and an annual surgical volume of over 1,000 procedures. Since its establishment, it has achieved continuous development through a multi-level discipline construction model, and has now developed into a comprehensive department integrating clinical practice, scientific research and teaching.
At present, the department offers a number of characteristic diagnosis and treatment services, with prominent specialty features, comprehensive technical capabilities, remarkable therapeutic efficacy, strong innovation capacity, standardized services, advanced equipment, outstanding scientific research and teaching levels, and a wide regional coverage. Its patient source covers Longhua District, Shenzhen urban area, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Shantou, Hainan Province, and even Hong Kong, providing high-quality medical services for the general public and benefiting the society.
Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment & Surgical Procedures
The department's core services focus on the diagnosis, treatment and surgery of common and intractable diseases of the anus and rectum, including hemorrhoids, anal fistula, anal fissure, perianal abscess, pruritus ani, anal condyloma acuminatum, anal stenosis, anal incontinence, anal malformation, anal sinusitis, rectal prolapse, and various types of constipation.
The surgical procedures independently performed by the department include:
Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy (external dissection and internal ligation of hemorrhoids), Procedure for Prolapse and Hemorrhoids (PPH), Rubber Band Ligation for Hemorrhoids (RPH), anal fistulectomy, seton therapy for high anal fistula, incision and drainage of perianal abscess, one-stage radical resection of perianal abscess, anal fissurectomy, flap transfer surgery, anorectal release surgery, modified Delorme procedure, modified Karydakis procedure for pilonidal sinus, transanoscopic local resection of rectal cancer, and resection of common perianal lesions.
For common perianal and rectal diseases, the procedures feature minimal trauma, fast healing, and mild postoperative pain. For intractable diseases such as high complex anal fistula, rectal prolapse and rectal malignant tumors, the department has achieved remarkable therapeutic efficacy with a low recurrence rate.
Postoperatively, the department applies a characteristic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment regimen, including oral administration of Chinese herbal medicine, herbal sitz bath, fumigation and washing, as well as microwave and infrared therapy. It gives full play to the disciplinary advantages of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, alleviates patients' postoperative discomfort, and greatly improves patients' postoperative quality of life while accelerating incision healing.
